Do We Have to Agree Before Divorce Mediation?

May 12, 2022

Question: Do you and your spouse have to agree on everything before the mediation?

Answer: absolutely not.

That’s MY job, as your mediator, to help both of you with suggestions, creative solutions, and ideas to reach an agreement. I love this part of my work, sitting down with people and having the discussions together, about how property and debts will be dealt with or coming up with that parenting plan that will work for your family and even talking about the pets. After more than 20 years of experience, I’ve been fortunate to work with hundreds of couples in mediation. All of that time spent at the mediation table means I have an excellent grasp on the most common challenges and concerns couples and families have when they are separating or divorcing like: Can one of us keep the house? We need help with a schedule for the kids or what happens to retirement I had before the marriage.

We talk about all of those things and more together, and we come up with a plan together. Of course, if you’ve come up with a plan and need help fine-tuning – that’s what I’m here for too. I hope that helps. Stay tuned for Question #2.
